The 'Na Aksa Gila Kyew Learning Centre computer lab grew from five work stations to twelve over the summer. Networking and getting the server fine tuned is still in progress, but everything will be ready for full scale operation soon.
The renovations to complete the project were made possible through generous donations.
With this new facility, the 'Na Aksa Gila Kyew Learning Centre is now able to offer a new online credit course, Information and Communications Technology 11, through Mike Wilson at the North Coast Distance Education School.
In addition, the school's new Computer Club will be taking on some important projects such as student cards, a monthly newsletter and the 2008-09 Year In Review video production. Also on the Club's agenda are fun things like playing with computer animation, digital photography, and graphic arts. The Computer Club is scheduled to meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Another activity made possible by the much improved computer lab is Student Tech Support. This service is available Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. and offers all students technical assistance in putting together Word and Excel projects.
The computer lab upgrade is far from over, however. The school is still shy a coupld of laptop computers, a network server with Windows Server 2003 (the server currently in use is on a six-month loan from Shurman Enterprises), and NetSupport School computer lab management software. Estimated cost to complete the project is about $4,000. The school is in a fundraising mode to cover the cost, and any donations would help.
